Avian Influenza - Disease & Control Strategies

Avian influenza is a viral infection that affects most species of birds. Outbreaks of avian influenza in the poultry industry cause devastating economic losses. The disease is of public health significance.

Control of avian influenza is through extensive culling of infected and in contact poultry, a stamping out policy. This website looks at vaccination as a supplementary control measure during avian influenza outbreaks.
